Rhinoplasty Case Study: From Beaked Nose to Balanced Profile

The Consultation

This young woman came to our office with a strong sense of what she wanted to change, but no desire for an overdone or “cosmetic” look. She described feeling self-conscious about her nose from the side. In particular, she noticed how it appeared to project forward and down, creating a harsh angle that didn’t reflect how she felt about herself.

On examination, her nose had what’s commonly referred to as a “beaked” appearance. This was caused by a prominent dorsal hump along the bridge, as well as a drooping nasal tip that created extra fullness in the lower third of her nose.

The rest of her features were soft and symmetrical, so our shared goal was clear: reshape the nose in a way that complemented the face she already had.

Day of Surgery

The procedure focused on three essential refinements:

  1. Dorsal hump removal to smooth the bridge of her nose and soften her profile.
  2. Tip elevation to counteract the downward droop, making the nose appear more balanced and less heavy.
  3. Tip refinement to reduce bulk and better define the lower third of the nose without exaggerating projection.

Preserving structure while creating these changes was key. She wanted subtlety, not sharp angles. Everything was approached with that in mind.

Two Weeks Post-Op

At her first major follow-up, most of the swelling along the bridge had already improved. The changes were immediately visible.

From the side, the transformation was striking. The hump was gone, the profile was much smoother, and the nose tip no longer pulled the eye downward. Even early on, she looked more refreshed and in harmony with her natural facial features.

From the front, the changes were even more subtle, exactly how we planned it. The nose appeared straighter and slightly narrower, but not artificial or pinched.

Two Months Post-Op

The shape of her nose continued to settle. The bridge looked smooth and natural. The tip had become more refined as swelling continued to resolve, and her overall expression was lighter and more open.

There’s a softness to her current profile that wasn’t there before, not because the nose is smaller, but because it’s no longer fighting against the rest of her features.

She’s smiling more in her photos. That’s always a good sign.

Final Result

This is the kind of rhinoplasty that’s easy to miss in the best way.

Her nose no longer distracts. It doesn’t define her face. It fits. The tip is lifted and elegant. The bridge is clean and straight. And the entire shape now flows naturally with the rest of her features.

What once looked angular and over-pronounced has become smooth, feminine, and balanced.

A Note on Surgical Philosophy

This case is a reminder that rhinoplasty is not about creating a smaller or trendier nose. It’s about creating your nose, the version that makes you feel like yourself when you look in the mirror.

That’s what we aim for with every patient at the Rhinoplasty Center of Long Island. This result is a perfect example of how that balance is achieved.
